#2 Make Your Bed

How a simple act can lead to lifetime gains

Some see it as a morning routine. Some see it as a chore. Making your bed.

In this article, I will give you 3 reasons why the simple act of making your bed has long term benefits to your overall growth.

  1. It is your first win of the day.

When you get out of bed, it's likely a mess. Pillows thrown on the floor, sheets ruffled, extra comforter blankets scattered all over the place. Chaos... However, you recognize the steps needed to address the issue. First, the sheets are pulled back, then the pillows in each defined location with finally folding of the extra blankets. In the end, you get to view a nicely made bed & start off your day with an accomplishment. Simple problem solving at its finest.

  2. It teaches discipline.

Although making your bed seems like a small task, it's small habits that are what build discipline. This will train your brain the benefits of commitment & consistency in your life. Sun, rain, snow, Monday morning work day or vacation, you know that a made bed will be a reality & you can appreciate how you showed up that day regardless of the external factors.

  3. It feels good to come home to a made bed.

After a long day, it can be draining to come home to make dinner, walk the dog, water the plants, take care of other chores. There are always obstacles we need to tackle. But if we started our day off right, we can come back to an aesthetically pleasing made bed.

The most important part of making your bed is not seeing it as a chore & rather a day starter. To have the mindset: "This action is going to be the beginning of a good day." Ultimately, the goal is to train your mind to begin the day with a win despite the external circumstances.

So tomorrow morning, take a few minutes to make your bed. Your future self will thank you.
