When I started the blog, I said I would post every two weeks on Mondays. As it is Wednesday today, I find it fitting to focus on the power of accountability.

"I'm going to run that race."

"I'm going to talk to that girl."

"I'm going to write that blog post."

We often find it easier to do things if we tell others we're going to do them first. Why is this? Accountability. We take ownership to get something done with external eyes surveying the progress. Accountability is also an important aspect to your own morals & ultimately one of the characteristics of how you are viewed by others. People are more likely to trust and respect someone who is consistent and owns up to their responsibilities - which in short is accountability.

Community plays a vital role in accountability because it provides the structure, support, and motivation needed to stay committed to goals. When you're part of a community, you have people who understand your goals and cheer you on. This emotional support is crucial during tough times when self-doubt or setbacks could derail your progress. A supportive community reminds you why you started and helps you persevere. Another reason is in a community, individuals often share similar objectives or challenges. Seeing others succeed—or even struggle—can inspire you to stay committed. It reinforces the idea that you're not alone in your journey and that progress is possible for everyone.

Personal accountability means setting goals and having the will power to follow through - success or failure. By tracking your progress and reflecting on outcomes, you create opportunities to learn from your mistakes and celebrate your successes. When you don't have any external support to accomplish things, your success can be based on your own internal will to get things done which is most definitely possible, but you have to be very disciplined & honest with yourself throughout whatever you are doing. Without external backing, we can fall into a "I'll get to that eventually" mindset & this can lead to missing our objectives.

With 2025 approaching, setting goals is a common theme. This will be "the year I lose weight", "the year I switch my job", "the year I travel the world", "the year I save X amount of dollars". In order to build accountability for accomplishing goals, it requires first writing them down AND then telling people about them. Your closest friends are a good start but tell anyone that will listen.

Overall, by embracing accountability, you not only align your actions with your values but also inspire those around you to do the same.
